Issue Position: Minimum Wage

Issue Position

This week Governor Mary Fallin signed a bill into law that would limit local communities from implementing their own minimum wage or benefit requirements. For someone who consistently talks about smaller government and local control when it benefits her argument, the Governor was quick to go in exactly the opposite direction.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, there are 21 states that have increased the minimum wage above the federal minimum and there are 34 states considering bills in 2014 to raise the minimum wage.

The annual income for a full time employee in Oklahoma making our current minimum wage is only $15,080. Minimum wage is currently set at $7.25 but would be $10.74 if it had kept up with inflation.

I am committed to working hard for hardworking Oklahomans.
